How It Works

Understanding Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis is a natural state we have all experienced and are capable of experiencing. Hypnotherapy is a form of therapy used to utilize this state to make changes in the deepest part of our mind, our subconscious mind. Our subconscious mind holds all of the things we have learned throughout our lives, all of the emotions we have felt from experiences, all of the beliefs we have obtained throughout the years and all of the things we have learned how to do.

The thing is, the subconscious part of our mind does not know the difference between what is right or wrong nor what is good for us or bad for us, it just holds on to these things to keep us going, and if we do something over and over again it will make it an automatic behaviour so that we don’t have to consciously think about it. You would not want to consciously think about putting one foot in front of the other every time you want to walk somewhere, right? So our subconscious mind is actually pretty amazing! The subconscious part of our mind holds on to these habits, patterns and reactions based on repetition or emotional experiences.

The conscious part of our mind is the part of our mind that does know right from wrong, what we should or should not do, what is real and what is imagined. As we grow our consciousness develops, we begin to have our own ideas and perceptions of things. We begin to have our own ideas of how we want our lives to be, we realize that Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny are not real… that behaviours of others are not always correct. We start to consciously know what we want to make happen in our lives and for ourselves. This is when it can feel like the two parts of our mind are not working together.

For many of us, some of the experiences we have throughout our lives create habits, patterns, reactions and fears that stop us from living our best lives. These habits, patterns, reactions and fears get anchored into our subconscious mind and it feels like we do not have control. But you do, I promise you that you do.

You don’t have to live with pain from past experiences, you don’t have to live with fear or suffer inside. All of the experiences you have had, all the feelings you are holding onto from those experiences are for you to learn and grow, you do not need to hold on to them. If you are being triggered then you are holding onto something. You may not realize it consciously, you may believe that you have done the work to heal. If there is nothing to “trigger”, you would not be “triggered”.

Hypnotherapy sessions help you to let go of the blocks, triggers, habits or fears anchored in the subconscious mind that are holding you back and replace them with new positive habits, beliefs or automatic behaviours you want to have helping you to be the best you can be!
